Can I get off Post housing after doing an ERD for my wife and son?

I am in the Army stationed in Hawaii at Schofield Barracks. I've been told by a few finance people that I can still receive BAH even though my wife and son went home on an ERD packet. I also have been told that she is entitled to single rate BAH for where she is living. I plan on getting an apartment soon and I'm a little nervous about the legalities of the situation. I still have legal custody of my son and he can come and live with me at anytime. hopefully this is enough info for an answer, Ive received so many different answers both at work and on the internet. hopefully one of you all can help me out!
