Salary negotiation - New Grad?

I interviewed at a company for which I believe I would do very well. The manager seemed pleased with my qualifications, and I am in the process of undergoing a background check, drug screen, etc. I am a new college graduate (second degree), and I have very little formal experience in this field, just a 1 year internship; however, the job requires a high level of responsibility. Do I have any room to negotiate the salary or do new grads have very little negotiating room? If the number is too low, is it appropriate to present current salary surveys, and then choose a reasonable number on the low end of that range simply because I am a new graduate?
