Cut telephone line, recepts don't work?

I am remodeling my basement and the previous owner for some reason had 5 phone jacks in a 500 sq. ft. finished area. Before doing drywall I just cut the line on 3 of them and figured I could just tie it off and it would be ok. We are getting digital phone. But now only 2 recepts on one wall don't work. Every one in the rest of the house does. Checked the breaker box, fine. Any idea what happened? Thanks in advance.
