My period hasn't stopped...?

So i just started taking Yasmin birth control and im almost done with my first week of pills and my period still hasn't stopped. I started taking it the first night of my period which happened to be a sunday and now there's still some light bleeding. Should this stop before i have to start the sugar pills?
